Why do we commit a part of our time in fighting the terrible decease that is hurting so many of us... Yes, Cancer. The reason is simple, we do not want to lose anymore of our loved ones from the evil of Cancer, we do not want to see any child crying because his mom cannot be with him, a mother asking herself over and over why her little one got sick and is dying? A young husband and father wondering how he is to go on after his high school sweetheart cannot fight anymore.

Why do we walk. Kiki is one of the fortunate people who have fought hard and won the battle against cancer. Kiki always took good care of herself, worked out, Ballroom dance. But then, the news…the battle, the changes……the fear never goes away...

Kristina has lost her Grandmother and many close friends, She and Kiki have done many 3 day/60 miles together and are truly committed to this cause

Isabelle is walking the 3day/60 miles for the first time, she like many has had friends who have been touched by this terrible decease, she is a busy woman, a great Mom and Grandma of a beautiful little girl giving her the motivation to do this walk with the hope that her 2 girls will never have to face this terrible decease

Few years ago, breast cancer became so predominant, few of Kristina & Kiki's close friends were diagnosed, we knew we had to do something …This is when in 2004 we created our team Walkin'On Sunshine, the team had many survivors like Kiki and over the years helped amazing women and men experience the gift of giving to others by participating in a 3 day events that year after year is working to find a cure

So, this is why we made it our mission to raise as much as we can to help the ones that cannot afford a decent treatment and to support the research so one day a cure for cancer has been found.

**************

Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today (after lung cancer) and is the most common cancer among women. It is estimated that about 40,970 women and 460 men will die from breast cancer in the United States this year. According to the American Cancer Society, the chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman's death is about 1 in 33 (3%). The incidence rate of breast cancer (number of new breast cancers per 100,000 women) increased by approximately 4% during the 1980s but leveled off to 100.6 cases per 100,000 women in the 1990s. The death rates from breast cancer also declined significantly between 1992 and 1996, with the largest decreases among younger women. Medical experts attribute the decline in breast cancer deaths to earlier detection and more effective treatments. Though much less common, breast cancer also occurs in men. An estimated 1,720 cases were diagnosed in men .

Beginning at the age of 20, every woman should practice monthly breast self-exams and begin a routine program of breast health, including scheduling physician performed clinical breast exams at least every three years. As a woman ages, her risk of breast cancer also increases. About 77% of women with breast cancer are over age 50 at the time of diagnosis. Women between the ages of 20 and 29 account for only 0.3% of breast cancer cases. Beginning at the age of 40, all women should have annual screening mammograms, receive clinical breast exams each year, and practice breast self-exams every month.

THANK YOU
