Campaign Story
Hello and welcome at the crowdfunding page of the Mason's family. The Mason's are are a lovely family;
Sabrina, hard working mum of Chloé (2) and Amélie (7 months) and lovely wife to Dan, who runs his own business and is a fantastic dad to the girls.
On the 27th of September 2015, Dan suffered a cardiac arrest and barely survived. Sabrina found Dan on the sofa, with a dark blue face, not breathing and no heart beat. At this point he had been without oxygen for over 20 minutes. She called 999 immediately. At this point she was trying to resusitate Dan, whilst holding Chloé off, as little Chloé wanted to help. Baby Amélie was playing on the floor. She also called one of her close friends, Hayley, who drove over straight away. Hayley's other half Josh, looked after the children, whilst the paramedics were saving Dan's life. Hayley was trying to look after Sabrina. At this point Hayley also called me. When I arrived, they were just carrying Dan downstairs. I locked the door and we all watched the ambulance drive away with its sirens and lights on. Thanks to Sabrina giving him cpr, and thanks to the wonderful paramedics, he made it to the Royal Sussex County, where is currently still is in the Intensive Care Unit. Dan has been in a medical induced coma, and scans have shown us that his brain is severely damaged. Dan is paralysed and blind. However, he still has a certain degree of his cognitive skills. On a good day, Dan can hold a simple conversation (with a lot of effort) and still has his amazing sense of humour :)
Dan has good days, and bad days. On bad days he's simply not there. He laughs uncontrollably, screams, gives the wrong answers to questions, and his reactions are all out of context. He has seizures and suffers from incredible pain. Sometimes he begs for help, because he is in so much pain. He still suffers from high temperatures and recurring infections in his body.
Sabrina and Dan's immediate family are all incredible. They support each other and are with Dan whenever they can. They want their son, brother, uncle back. Sabrina wants her husband back and the children need their dad. We want our friend to come back. Unfortunately this isn't in our hands.
The future is uncertain. Nobody knows what the future will hold.
Dan might not be able to ever walk again.
Dan might never be able to physically see his children again.
Dan might not be able to take the children to the park, and push them on the swings.
Dan might not be able to drop the girls off for their first ever day at school.
Dan might never be able to work again.
However, one thing is pretty sure. This will be a long and costly journey. Once Dan has stabilized enough, he will be moved to a specialist rehabilitation center which won't be in Brighton. We don't know where it will be. This means travel costs, possibly relocating, possibly adjusting the flat. All these changes will cost money. Not only that, but surviving on one income with two small children, will be tough.
Sabrina is, understandibly, very worried. Personally I have no idea how she does it - she is on her own with two small children, her family are all in Switzerland. She cries every day and Chloé, who is just two, tells her not to worry, and that the doctors will make daddy better. It really breaks my heart. We all know how incredibly exhausting it is to be a mum, to be dad. It eats all your energy. But try to imagine Sabrina's situation. She needs all the strength in the world to get through this. And not just today and tomorrow, and next week. She will need it for the next few years.
All the money raised will go towards (medical) bills, travel costs and whatever Sabrina needs in order to survive financially whilst Dan is recovering.
Please help them, and donate whatever you can. Let's try to take some of the financial worries away, so Sabrina can concentrate on Dan and the children.
Thank you,
Team Mason
Edit: regular updates by Sabrina are posted in a group on Facebook, dedicated to Dan's recovery. Please join her: https://www.facebook.com/groups/988917444500413/?r...

Chlo is two!
Update posted by Sylvia D.A. at 06:53 pmA few days ago it was Chlo's second Birthday! Although her party isn't until next week, there was a little gathering of friends at the local playgroup. Jumping, dancing and singing toddlers, all blissfully unaware of what's going on. Chlo was her usual happy self and Amlie seemed to enjoy. . . . .

We need to do this more!!! How I dislike the commercial way life is going, people think consume consume consume Especially at Christmas. We are refusing to do this. But we will do what we can for our friends, family and the community. We are all part of our own little world which we need to change to the better. Hope everybody has a good festive time, wishing everyone a mindful Christmas Xx
