Why Ethiopia?
It is estimated that roughly 400 children a day die in Ethiopia alone from starvation and other hunger related issues. Yet, according to the Institute for Food and Development, there is enough food produced worldwide each day to provide every person with 4.3 lbs of food, or 3,500 calories a day!
Why Seeds for Need?
The mission of Seeds for Need is to provide impoverished families in Ethiopia with an assortment of highly adaptable and nutritious vegetable seeds which can be grown for food or trade. With the generous donations received, Seeds for Need purchases the vegetable seeds, packaging containers and other materials needed, and ships them via other well established non-profit organizations to Ethiopia where they can be distributed.
Each individual care package received by each family contains over 430 vegetable seeds. These are vegetable seeds of cowpea, snap peas, carrots, okra, watermelon, spinach and swiss chard. These vegetable seeds are specially selected to grow well in the Ethiopian climate because they are heat and drought resistant.
Our Goal
By reaching $1,000 Seeds for Need will be able to send over 105,000 vegetable seeds that will help feed 240 individual families!
