Greetings Friends,

This is a campaign that we have started in hopes that some of our close friends can help us with. Long story....short.

Due to panic of losing our airmiles, when they said that they would become obsolete, Diane and I decided to use them for a trip to Havana,Cuba. We depart for Havana Feb. 16 and return on Feb. 24th.

Yes, I know ! But please don't be jealous. After we started reading more and planning more, we thought it would be nice to help out an elementary school in Havana, since our granddaughter, Adalynn is so lucky to have a great school and such opportunities here at home.

In Havana we will be staying at an apartment we rented throurgh AirB&B. After exchanging emails with our host, they connected us to a contact at Miguel Fernandez Roig, which is a school not far from our apartment.

Our plan if successful, will be to take a second suitcase full of much needed school supplies for them. In their email ( which I will gladly share all correspondence if you like )they did not ask for much. They told me that for each group of four children there was one pair of scissors, which is really sad. They also asked for things like, coloured pencils, glue sticks, stickers, pencils, erasers etc. or whatever other ideas we had.

I am now researching the purchase of lot items of these and trying to get an idea of what I can get and how much can be packed into one suitcase. It also has to weigh less than 50lbs.

After having said all this, I am reaching out to my close friends to see if they can be of some help. Now please listen carefully, no one person needs to go crazy with this, but if we all could spare say $5 or $10.00, which of that amount GoFundMe keeps $0.55 or $1.10 for it's service and fees, unfortunately, but I guess they cannot do it for free. Other than those deductions every penny would go to the cause, and I think the important part is you will all know that it gets to go where it was intended. We will be delivering it personally right to the classrooms.

To complete the plan I have also contacted Adalynn's school, Pictou Elementary, who will help Adalynn and her classmates to write letters to the children their own age in M.H.Riog, and we will bring back letters from there for them.

So we hope to provide some much needed help to children in Havana, as well as creating a connection between two young cultures, that could bring them closer together in future years.

If you think it is worthy, please donate....and remember just a little will go a long way if we all do it together. If however you feel this is not for you we will also understand that too. If you would require further information or have questions that did not get answered here, please do not hesitate to write to us through my private email or private message on our Facebook accounts.

I have since given up on GoFundMe, as they have not been responsive and have now chosen GoGetFunding to help with this. It is based on the same principal, with a small fee for the services. You can find it at this link :
