Campaign Story
Brixton Splash is a free annual carnival happening on the first Sunday in August in Brixton, London. The Carnival is not-for-profit and is presently organised by a group of local volunteers. The Carnival has been running for 10 years and we rely on grants, sponsorship and donations to deliver the Carnival each year.
This year the local council, Lambeth, have decided to refuse permission for the carnival but say they wish to see it take place in 2017. We want to ensure they do by making sure we have enough funds to start planning for 2017 now. That way we can ensure that we never find ourselves in this position again.

The Carnival compromises of a main stage to support local upcoming talent by providing them with an opportunity to showcase their talent and experience live performing to thousands., sound-systems, food stalls, a craft market with craft stalls heavily subsidised by Brixton Splash and free arts workshops for children and young adults.
Throughout the rest of the year, we also deliver an Art's Outreach Programme which goes into local schools and community centres for the elderly. We have volunteer steward and events programmes for young adults finding it hard to gain employment. This gives them confidence, work experience, CV, interview training and a real sense of self-worth. Previous volunteers have gone on to become SIA qualified security staff which, for example, enabled employment during the Olympic Games. The main stage provides an opportunity for local talent to showcase their music and experience live performing to thousands.
The Brixton Splash Carnival and its schools, youth and elderly arts
outreach programme brings its community together for a day of joy which
is open to and free for everyone. Visitors experience a cultural
explosion via innovative music, traditional sound systems and arts
workshops which ensures those suffering poverty can still enjoy the day
and explore their community. We provide a platform for the local
community to showcase its talent to thousands of visitors and the Arts
outreach programme goes in to schools and community centres throughout
the year to engage with difficult to reach children and residents who
often feel isolated within their community.
