We have set up this page in order to try and raise funds to buy a cold cot for Burnley Birth Suite. On Saturday 14th of March 2014 at 6.28pm, our little girl Primrose was born asleep. She was 20 weeks premature and weighed just 11oz. When a baby is born this early, their skin starts to deteriorate extremely quickly and the baby has to go the mortuary just a few hours after birth. A cold cot slows down the deterioration proccess quite significantly, meaning that the family can spend more time with the baby before they have to leave them. Fortunately, we had the use of a cold cot when Primrose was born - this meant that we were able to spend almost 18 hours with her before we had to leave her. In those 18 hours, we were able to hold her; kiss her; talk to her; take beautiful photographs of her and have her hand and footprints taken. We will never forget those hours. Without a cold cot, Primroses birth would have been even more traumatic and it would have been a lot harder to cope with her death.
Unfortunately, there were other families on the ward who were experiencing the same thing as us - but as Burnley Birth Suite only have one cold cot, those families will not have been able to spend much time with their babies before they had to leave them. Losing a child is a heartbreaking experience alone, without having the ability to spend much time with them!
We would like to take it upon ourselves to try and raise the funds to buy an additional cold cot for the Birth Suite at Burnley General Hospital. We have also arranged to have a specially made wooden crib donated to us to house the unit.
Thankyou for for taking the time to read our story.

My baby Poppy was born asleep at 22 weeks and I was fortunate enough to spend the night with her before we said our goodbyes. This cause is so important to parents like me who want to spend as much time as possible with their baby before they have to leave them forever.
