Wait, STOP, pause, Please , - This is a story for all of my 67 Rescues! . Please don't keep scrolling! I moved to an area with the intention to build a few wood cabins to rent out and be at one with nature, you see South Africa has the most beautiful wildlife you could ever imagine! But that never came about. I have always had a passion for animals and have always had a few cats and dogs but within 4 months of living there, I had rescued 4 dogs on were on the side of the road, starving and neglected. Then I had a call requesting shelter for 2 kittens found in the bush then same caller a week later saying they had found 4 more, that was my first litter. Then a few weeks later another dog on the side of the road. It soon became apparent that there was no local shelter and there desperately, was a need for one. Every donation will help with sterilization and housing.

I live among game reserves in my area, later I discovered they shoot domestic cats as they interfered with the wildlife especially birds and rodents. Residents on those reserve desperately wanting to get their cats out of there calling to shelter their new kittens etc. Before long, I landed up with 23 dogs, 47 cats. Now I know most people would just say' Well, your just stupid, but how can you turn down a kitten or puppy in danger or left on the side of the road after being run over? And then a big charity organization approached me and asked if they could shelter donkeys from the local poorer area where they would confiscate the badly abused ones. Thinking 1 or 2 would be ok but I have a small property.

But after 6 months I had 15 donkeys and now only 1 pair of hands. Mine! They would only supply food and vet assistance if needed, everything else I would be doing, I though applying a few creams on a few opened wounds would be ok but then when you suddenly have 15 it take a lot longer. I was still just a lady trying to work a normal job and now feeding and looking after 60 something animals.

I had to hire a person to help so I could get on with getting money in. Now over the 2 years of covid, my company had allowed me to work from home so I was up early and feed and checked on every soul then get to work do a full day then do the feed round for dinner and finally feed myself around 9 at night. However, then there were days when this charity requested me to go out and fetch a donkey of which I had to take time off to do this and find a few pair of hand that I had to pay for out my pocket to collect a donkey, its not like I can just pick it up and pop it into my car. My company decided after 2 years of working at home during covid that if I wasn't in the office daily then they would forced me into quitting because it required me to travel an hours distance and sometimes traffic is really bad getting back at 9pm at night. Now I look around for temp jobs just to keep the money coming in to pay for food and vets bills.

The Big Charity organization decided that if I can't take in more than 15 donkeys then they would get ones that I had on the property adopted (the adoption fees went back to them) and then just dropped me like a hot cake. After they had said in the beginning they would help with arranging money to hire an extra pair of hands and we could negotiate them paying a bit of rent for the donkeys, this is a world wide charity, that money was never forthcoming. There were 4 donkeys left that were then stolen back by the owner who had them confiscated. They not only stole the donkeys they stole my solar light that shone on them for protection all night and my motor for my gate.

The next year became increasing hard, after my car broke down, my phone died, my solar system was struck by lightening and basically everything that could happen did. And then to top it off, as I had a mining company's truck driver, either drunk or fallen asleep at the wheel take out 7 meters of fencing line and 2 poles and after submitting emails and photo's and no police report (the driver was no where to be seen after that) they turn around and tell me their insurance is not going to cover it and I can fight it but on my small salary they can afford to tie it up in court for years! I had only just finished fencing everywhere so my dogs could run around the property. This took nearly a year to get the whole property fenced as I had to buy a few poles and 1 role of fencing per month. My salary only goes so far, house, dog and cat food and 2 sterilizations a month, petrol and then my food if there is any left.

I got a temp job worked for a few months was hoping to set aside a little to start building more kennels as we desperately needed more housing especially after Xmas and New years, people get puppies and the realize they are to energetic or get to big, they are then abandoned or neglected on the side of the road. I finally got myself registered as a small charity but you see, people tell me as it's just a dog or cat, no one is interested in donating or helping. Over a year, I have had 1 sponsor help with 3 bags of cat food and another with a bag of dog food. This to me is heartbreaking, I cannot understand how someone can run over a dog or animal and just leave it lying in the road or the side. Most of my rescues have been found this way on my way to town or taking my rubbish to the dump. I am asking you to please, please find it in your hearts to help me keep the food and veterinary bills at bay. I have spent every sent I own trying to give them a warm, food filled shelter where they can heal and feel safe. Please help me keep this promise to them..
