  • I was recently re-listening back thru your audiobook of The Covert War Against Rock. In it you talk about Tupac, how he was more talented than most other MCs before or since, but how he was also most likely an intelligence asset. This brought up something that I've struggled with over the years since I discovered this cultural manipulation was going on at such an endemic level. How much of this art and music that is created to influence us is actually "good" or worthwhile? Another hip-hop example is Mobb Deep. Their Infamous record is one of my all time favorite albums, but when I was listening to it again recently, I started to get disillusioned. The Infamous... is considered the first or at least most emblematic example of gangster rap. Track two features a spoken word intermission where Prodigy threatens specifically other rappers, claiming to be carrying at weapon at all times. The album does a lot to encapsulate all the tropes of what would become gansta rap. That was their second or third album, released when they were teenagers, and nothing they ever did after that came close the level they achieved on that album, lyrically, musically, production wise, recording quality, everything. I like their next few releases but they seem to be mostly rehashing The Infamous, even repeating many of the rhymes. This got me thinking that perhaps they were a contrived musical act, created for a purpose. Later in his life after a stint in prison, Prodigy talked specifically about The Illumunati, 9/11 being an esoteric blood ritual, alternative history, and pyramids on Mars, both in lyrics and interviews. I never read too many specific experiences from Prodigy about how his eyes became open. Of course he was never going to say that his career was handed to him until he refused to play ball (which may or may not be true). And of course he died young... So I was just wondering if you could talk about that, all the classic rock, all those movies and entertainment that we love but may have written, influenced or aided by the CIA, and how we can still enjoy them while also being aware. In some cases, maybe we should stop listening. The magic of The Beatles really wore off for me after learning about Tavistock and the Faul thing. But there again, even the replacement wrote a few good tunes as well. PS Since you were talking about Tupac, I was also wondering if you've heard any updates about him recently. I remember hearing in maybe 2019 that Suge Knight's son tweeted that Tupac was alive and recording new music in Malaysia. All the best, keep up the good work.
