Babe Ruth, the baseball legend stated that it is hard to beat someone who never gives up. In South Africa, August is women's month. I have never seen anything more resilient than an African women, no matter her race, nationality or ethnicity. I have the privilege to travel wide and work in communities to earn my livelihood. I'm always in awe of the women keeping families together, feeding children and working for a better future. Today I want to honour one of these women. Karin started her life over at 50, after a journey that at times were so harrowing that one almost can't belief that it really happened. Through all this, she never gave up. She got angry, sad, hopeless and scared, but she kept going, always standing up, trying again, moving forward. She is an incredibly talented and hard working women, and is finally able to move into her own place after staying with us for 16 months - very appropriately on 1 September, Spring Day in South Africa! She has started a successful small business manufacturing gazebo's, covers for outside furniture, giving new life to old camping chairs, making anything that you can imagine. She has literally worked until her fingers bled. She is building up a customer base slowly but surely -her work is impeccable. Moving into her own place with her two children is a giant step forward and a leap of faith. To help her to grow her business and becoming the master of her own destiny, I would like to assist her to buy a little car. She would need to go and buy material, see clients and deliver goods. Having her own car would help her not only to grow the business, but also to help her children on their way to independence. I came to know the beauty of the human spirit through friends, family and even strangers who generously blessed us with money, time, love and support. Many of you have already done so much, and I would like to thank you for that. There are many ways to help me to help Karin. You can donate to this fundraiser, or you can look at her Facebook page AuKardin and place an order (See the pictures below for examples of her work). You can connect her with someone that you think may use her services. You can spread the message about her work far and wide. Everyone deserves a break, an opportunity- a foot in the door. I am trying to raise R40 000 - with that we can get a little car and start the journey. If you don't want to go through PayPal, or contact Karin directly, send me a message and we can arrange something .
