Story

“My son was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 3. When other kids his age were going to preschool with their little bags and water bottles, my child was undergoing chemotherapy. We would have broken down completely if it hadn’t been for his smile. He didn’t know what cancer was, he didn’t know that this monstrous disease could be a Trouble Maker and that blissful innocence helped him smile through it all. Our son became our support system during that period and how! In 2017, 3 years after he was diagnosed, my son beat cancer. I still remember the feeling I had then - I felt like someone had breathed life into me again.”

Trapson D’mello, Royce’s father

The D’mello family began living life again. They couldn’t wait to do all the things they couldn’t before. Royce’s days were planned with going to the park on Sundays and having his favourite ice cream twice a week. He began going to school and made so many new friends that even his parents were pleasantly surprised. The thing that made the family happiest was his increasing interest in drawing and they quickly made up their mind to enroll him in the best art class that they could afford and also his urge to be a Karate Kid . However, before any of those dreams could materialize, Royce’s mother noticed some spots on her son’s body.

“I couldn’t quite grasp what it was and called my husband at work. Neither one of us dared to say what we were really thinking. All we could do then was quickly take him to the hospital for aa check up. The anxiety and wait for the results almost made me forget how to breathe. ”

Cancer Came back to Hunt the Family

The results were clear. In March 2019, 7-year-old Royce was diagnosed with cancer again. He was immediately admitted to P.D. Hinduja National Hospital, Mahim where he is currently undergoing medication to stabilize him.

“It’s like reliving our worst nightmare again. I just keep thinking of all the things that he is yet to do. I mean, I haven’t even taken him to his favourite theme park yet. I want to go to his graduation as his proud mom. I want to see my son grow up and grow wiser. I can’t - I can’t give up on my child. If he has fought it once, I know my brave one can fight this cancer again.”

However, things are getting increasingly difficult for the 7-year-old. The Monster is back , which sustained the rigorous Chemotherapy and this time the hard chemos are not the only solution . Which means that the severity of the relapse has left Bone Marrow transplant as the only solution.

“My son doesn’t even have the energy to hold my hand tightly . He doesn’t run around , Eats very less as compared to his heavy cravings for food , the smile has reduced. It used to be so easy to make him smile - the promise of ice-cream or meeting his friends. But now, it’s like the cancer is rapidly sucking the happiness and innocence out of him.”

But he said to Doctors – “ I will Fight Again & Win “

"I Will not Cry Ma"

Trapson D’mello has exhausted all his savings. The last time this happened, they were able to fund it with most of their savings and small contributions from family and friends alike helped them make this treatment a success. Currently however, they need Rs. 52 Lakh for which they have already taken multiple loans and sold off what they could. They have arranged for Rs. 20 Lakh through that but with Trapson being the sole breadwinner of the family and the hospital bills piling up rapidly there is no way that the family can arrange the remaining Rs. 32 Lakhs for the Bone Marrow Transplant.

“We have come so far, we won’t give up now. All Royce needs now is your love and support. Please help us bring the smile back “

How Your can Help ?

7-year-old Royce urgently needs to get a Bone Marrow Transplant for his Leukemia relapse as soon as possible. The post-operative care and the surmounting hospital bills also add up to the cost. They are desperately falling short of 32 lakhs and would be eternally grateful for every little contribution towards them in their time of need.
