How your contribution will be used

To strengthen child protection and to mitigate of teenage pregnancy and early marriage cases during the COVID‐19 pandemic, I’ve created this crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for enhancing community awareness by organizing radio talk shows, radio drama episodes, and community outreach psycho-social counseling sessions with minimal but permitted numbers, early detection and effective management and referral of child abuse cases.

Background

The purpose of this crowdfunding campaign is to raise funds to fight the staggering amount of abuse and pregnancy cases of teenage girls during the Covid-19 lockdown in Uganda.

Globally, COVID‐19 lockdowns have put children, especially girls under threat of sexual, physical and emotional abuse and neglect.

Uganda has implemented one of the most stringent lockdown that has seen schools closed for nearly two years.

The lockdown has affected more than 15 million Ugandan children and young adults attending kindergarten, primary, secondary school along with colleges and universities. Now they are forced to be prisoners in their own homes all over the country.

Data gathered from government and child welfare organizations indicates that the psycho-social impacts of COVID‐19 have very adversely affected the living conditions of children, especially girls, limiting their access to basic needs such as food, education and health care.
There is a lack of social support, thus putting children at an increased risk of different forms of child abuse. Since the beginning of the COVID‐19 lockdown in Uganda in March 2020, there has been an increase in child abuse cases, defilement and early marriages of young girls have been heavy issues.

Increased terrible cases of physical and sexual abuse of children, early marriages and child labor have been reported in different parts of the country. As a result, young girls have been forced to get married while the majority of the impregnated girls have been abandoned by the perpetrator and the girl’s parents, due to which the girls have been deeply traumatized, developing various mental issues.

Notes from the Campaign Organizers:

If you can help us during this critical time, the Ugandan community and I will be very grateful. We know that times are tough for everyone during this COVID-19 pandemic, but any support you can offer, will be highly appreciated. Whether it is $5, $10, $50, $500, $1000, $5,000 or any other amount, we appreciate any donation that you make to support this community.

No amount is too low or too high. Give as much as you like, and we‘ll be very grateful. The small contribution you make creates a big change in the lives of these girls.

If you cannot donate at this time, please kindly help us in sharing this campaign link and especially its video with everyone you know or a platform/forum. Sharing is free, but it can help us connect with more people who can contribute to this fundraiser.

Share it on social media, and we’ll be very grateful. You can start your own fundraising as a family, company or an organization to raise funds to save the situation here in Uganda. Thank you for reading and supporting us.

Your donation would make a big difference in transforming Ugandan community & behavioral change for the better. Our slogan is: “Intervene To Delay Marriage, Secure A Bright Future”. “When you dig another out of trouble, you find a place to bury your own”. “Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking. What’s in it for me?” -Brian Tracy
