Hello Lakesiders and friends in Guadalajara . . . by now you must know that there was a fire at La Paceña the other night. I spoke with Montse and Jorge last night and they do not have a final report on the cause. The palapa was destroyed, the kitchen will need major repairs and the main structure will need professional cleaning and replacement of many items. Luckily, the newly constructed wood framing in the garden was not harmed in the fire.
I know how much I love the food and the people at La Paceña. It is where I have toasted to good news and festive occasions. It is where I have sunk into a booth with my laptop, to enjoy a delicious taco while working on various projects. It is where I have retreated to on those nights where I just didn’t want to cook and friendly faces paired with tasty food and a refreshing cocktail seemed to the only answer. Sometimes crispy rice and a fish taco were the perfect way to end the day. It has been a lovely place to meet friends, make friends, celebrate friends and I know it is a place we have grown to love.
During the pandemic they worked hard to stay open, providing regular income to their staff. And the care they put into their menu makes all the difference, even when we were all just ordering for delivery during the pandemic. They believe in this community and have supported artists, musicians and charitable organizations throughout Lakeside.
I know many of you have mentioned that you would like to help in some way. This is your opportunity to show them how much you love what they do and how important they are to us. They hope to construct an outdoor kitchen to provide meals for all of us, while the inside is being evaluated and repaired. But, the loss of income and rebuilding is going to be a financial burden for them.
Please give as you are able. Jorge and Montse are working hard to reopen as soon as possible. Thank you so much!
ps - The donations are going directly to Montse and Jorge's account. I only facilitated the fund. Payments can be made by debit or credit card and when they ask for the amount you wish to donate, it is in MXN pesos, not US dollars.
