Making a little boy's dreams come true!!

Heidelberg is a beautiful place with a wonderful community! So much talent, yet not much opportunities! We as Empower Drumming Academy, would like to give hope to the community, especially to young boys in the less advantaged part of Heidelberg, namely Heidelberg East or "Oos-Dorp" as it is most commonly known.

The Empower Drumming Academy is more than just a place that teaches boys how to play drums, it serves as a centre for learning and teaching. The sense of community is what separates the academy from private drum lessons. Learners registered to the academy will receive free tuition, which will enable them to reach their full potential. The academy is opened on a daily basis and runs as an extra mural curriculum. Learners will each have access to:

I. One-on-one lessons – Students will have a 1 hour lesson per week with an instructor. These lessons will comprise of various drumming techniques, sight reading, rudimental exercises etc

II. Theory lessons – Music theory lessons are done on a weekly bases, usually within a group setting. This interaction is an important aspect for learners, as it adds to the overall sense of community and understanding.

III. Training Facilities – Training facilities ensure that students have ample time to practice their craft. These facilities are going to be set up in a sound proof booth at the academy, as it will allow them to practise at full volume.

IV. Exams- Exams are conducted on site with quality recording equipment. Exams are paid directly to the Trinity Guildhall exam board by the Empower Drumming Academy.

We want to do more than just provide drum lessons! We want to grow into an academy for drumming - with the curriculum now in process! As part of our vision we would like to buy more equipment for our studio and practise facilities made available to our learners.

As the Drumming instructor, I will be doing this on a full-time basis as it requires individual time with students as well as class sessions. We are registered as a NPC (Non-Profit Company), and do not charge any fees as we rely completely on funding.

Even though we starting off small, the smiles and hope on these boys faces motivates us to grow this academy.
