The H.B.U.C. is a Creative Country Club in the heart of Atlanta. Founded in June 2021.

When we started, I just wanted to empower my talented friends. A lot of us being from small towns, I wanted to highlight the possibilities, and furthermore, dispel the excuses. From idea to a 20,000 sq feet facility, we far exceeded my initial goals.

My original projections to accomplish a full buildout and functioning operation was $750,000. The space was to include:

  • Video production sets for photography and videography
  • Podcast Recording rooms
  • CYC Walls and Seamless paper backdrops
  • Co-Op Working spaces
  • A private professional training gym
  • A massage therapy spa
  • Concentrated working spaces and vanity rooms for women
  • Local and Global Brand partnerships
  • A media network with original content
  • Production Editing Suite
  • Lounge Areas
  • Boardrooms
  • Full Service Prep Kitchen

After only raising a $230,000 of the goal, through private investors and family contributions, I decided it was enough to get started and I couldn't wait any further. I live by the motto, "Don't Complain, Adjust" so that's what I did.

We opened June 1, 2021, and have produced over 350 productions in the last 12 months including productions with Chris Brown, Jimmy Fallon, Nike's Yardrunner Campaign, Black Enterprise, The Atlanta Hawks, and One Music Fest to name a few.

Also during the year, we were able to bring on interns with troubled pasts, pitch and fund projects for underfunded local creatives, empower women creatives in film and production, and connect with local performing arts schools and programs.

Atlanta's crime rate increase puts it #17 on the national list

With the lack of creative outlets, The University became a safe haven and bridge for our interns with a strong interest in music, video production and merchandising to obtain jobs in the entertainment industry they didn't previously qualify for.

We were able to secure or supplement production and art budgets for creative women who were more likely to be offered smaller budgets than their male counterparts. On average, the approved budgets for men are 3x bigger than the budgets approved for women creatives.

Our 350+ productions included short films, music videos, live performances, podcasts, tv show premieres and photoshoots. Equipped with 10 operational production sets, a full service massage spa, and podcast recording rooms give us the resources to provide range for all creatives.

With our "Create Great" campaign we will translate artistic desire into training in business functions. We will require all of our interns with music aspirations to train in project management, sound engineering, set design, amongst other programs to retain their internship. We will also partner with local high schools and colleges to recruit school of arts concentrated boys and girls for internships.

FUNDS FROM THE CAMPAIGN WILL BE USED FOR:

  • HVAC - $110,000
  • Intern Training Classes renovations - $24,000
  • Full Service Kitchen renovations and Appliances - $30,000
  • Professional Training Facility Buildout - $150,000
  • AV Equipment - $50,000
  • Youth Development Program - $100,000 (paid interns per year + Training Costs)
  • Women In Film Program - $100,000
  • Workspace Furniture / Interior Decorating - 50,000
  • Full Time Security Agency - $110,000
  • Working Capital / Salaries - $200,000
  • Utilities - $26,000
  • Marketing - $50,000

With a shoestring budget, we were able to create magic and empower a community that dangerously lacks resources. With your help we can bring something that hasn't been done yet, which is rarely ever possible. Please help up take our contributions to the next level.
