RIP Joseph Tate - April 28th 1983 to April 29th 2021 - My Beloved Grandson

-FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS IN THE UPDATES SECTION BELOW-

Reverend Annie Chambers tragically lost her grandson over the weekend. Her grandson, Joseph Tate, has passed on after a brief battle with COVID-19. Joseph was born to Annie Chambers' daughter, Merry Rogers. He's the oldest child and leaves behind 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Joseph, Annie, and the rest of the Rogers / Chambers family lived in a 3 story rowhouse on Guilford Ave in the Charles Village neighborhood. Annie Chambers (then Annie Rogers) famously squatted in the large, city-owned home. Annie took the home for her family and forced Baltimore City to properly turn the home into a public housing unit.

Joseph went to Dallas F. Nichols Elementary and later graduated from Eastern HS. Annie fought for young Joseph to get the special medicine he needed to help him grow. Annie found out that those on wealthy, private medical insurance plans were already getting the treatments that Joseph needed. She successfully led a protest in Washington DC for her grandson and all other families on Medicaid to get access to the medication Joseph and thousands of other children need.

From an early age Joseph would go with Annie to protests all throughout Baltimore. They protested with all her children and grandchildren at the Baltimore City School Board and Baltimore City Hall for better educational programs. While Joseph was still young he got to see his grandmother lead an inspiring campaign for Baltimore City Council, Maryland House of Delegates and then later Lt Governor. And just 4 years ago he got to celebrate his grandmother's victory when she won her Baltimore Public Housing HUD RAB Delegate seat.

More Information on Reverend Annie Chambers

For those who may not know, Reverend Annie Chambers (formerly Annie Rogers) is a longtime revolutionary civil rights activist. She's a legendary figure in the Baltimore and Eastern Shore Black Panthers, studied under the tutelage of Malcolm X, a former Communist Labor Party Member, National Welfare Rights Organization President, founder of Big Momma's House, and co-founder of the Maryland Food Bank. She's currently a HUD RAB Public Housing Delegate for Douglass Homes Public Housing Project, a leader with Welfare Rights Union and the Baltimore People's Power Assembly. She also runs a food giveaway program for her homeless and low-income neighbors.

Please Help Me Lay My Grandson to Rest

Annie finds herself with the heartbreaking cost of burying her wonderful grandson, Joseph Tate. Any amount you can contribute will go a long way towards her goal of $7,500. She's preparing a simple, small, safe private funeral service next week for her immediate family so they can lay him to rest. The funeral home needs payment early next week on Monday. The funeral home must be paid in full before the service. So unfortunately any government grants for COVID-19 deaths won't come in time.

Donations can also be given directly to Annie. Please call ahead if coming by.
