Campaign Story
Born July 26th, 1938 in Nashville, Tn. Bobby Hebb began performing with his nine year old brother Harold at age three. Hebb performed on a TV show hosted by country music record producer Owen Bradley, which led him to a regular spot with the Grand Ole Opry star Roy Acuff and his band. Hebb played the spoons and several other instruments in Roy Acuff's band along with his Smokey Mountain Boys. Hebb also played the west coast style trumpet in the United States Navy Jazz Band while he was enlisted in the armed services. He was a member of the grammy winning gospel group, the Fairfield Four formed in Nashville, Tennessee.
He also replaced Mickey in singer Sylvia Robinson's Mickey and Sylvia, which then became Bobby and Sylvia. Bobby Hebb worked with blues star Bo Diddley on his song " Diddley, Diddley, Diddley, Daddy" with the group the moonglows and blues star Little Walter which was recorded at Chess Record Studios with founder Leonard Chess engineering the sessions.
In 1966 Hebb released a song that he wrote that would become a worldwide hit. The song was Sunny. Reaching number # 2 on the pop charts, # 3 on the r/b charts and # 12 on the United Kingdom charts. He toured with the great rock band the " Beatles" in 1966. He also co-wrote the late great singer Lou
Rawls hit of 1971, " A Natural Man" , # 17 pop charts, # 17 r/b charts. BMI Publishing also rated Hebb's "Sunny" # 25 in its Top 100 songs of the Century. His song Sunny is currently airing on television for the commercial 'Indeed" around the country. The Tomorrows Hope foundation and fans are trying to raise funds to honor the late great Bobby Hebb and his Family with an historical marker in his hometown of Nashville,Tn. It is to be placed at the corner of Edgehill and 12th Avenue south next to the historical marker of Deford Bailey, another great country music opry star who also grew up in this neighborhood. These two historical markers should greatly accommodate each other.
Thank you for your contributions and help keeping great music awareness alive and thriving.
