Campaign Story
Request for Aid.
Ometepe Island, Nicaragua.
With the Covid 19 pandemic spread globally the flow of tourists has ceased to this island. The local economy is dependent on tourism to support itself. Many people find themselves without work to support their families. Many families have only enough to feed themselves for a few days without regular income. The government of Nicaragua is unable to provide real support or relief to these effected communities.
We find ourselves hunkered down in the town of Los Angeles, where there are many families needing support. The price of food and goods here is the second lowest in the western hemisphere so a little support goes along way. We have been able to help a few families in need but do not have the financial means to help the greater community.
As Canadians we were blessed with a life of relative abundance and a stable society to support us. Many people in this world are struggling right now to find a way to survive through this time. So I am asking any of you reading this, if you find yourself with more than you need to survive right now, please consider supporting the communities that are most in need.
We will be using whatever we receive from this request to help support families in Moyogalpa, Esquipals, and Los Angeles. We are able to buy 100# of rice for about 50$ Canadian, We have also been putting together bags of house hold essentials (Soap, Beans, Flour, Cooking Oil, Etc…). We have the connections and means to distribute directly to those families that need it most.
Let us stand together in this time of need and support each other when it is needed most. Let there be hope in this world.
With many thanks,

I love the Salt Spring/Ometepe connection - and drink the wonderful coffee every day. Wish I could spare more but hope this helps a little. Thanks for organizing it.

Bryan Lawson, great idea! I'm sure the Ometepe economy has been hit hard... Let's do what we can to help! Thanks for putting this together.
