The Youth Now Farm: Barn Down!

The YOUTH NOW FARM is an innovative project launched in 2017 that brings together the benefits of farming with youth engagement. We have already been able to offer employment and therapeutic experiences to newcomer youth, street-involved youth, youth involved in the criminal justice system, youth with diverse developmental backgrounds, and youth seeking mental health supports. And we are just getting started! We believe that we are well positioned, together with all of our community partners, to help youth grow.

The Need:

On September 21, a large wind storm in the Ottawa region completely demolished our large heritage barn which was undergoing renovations to scale up our farm activities.

No one was hurt, and all of the animals were safely gathered in another structure during the storm.

The Youth Now Farm rents our property from the National Capital Commission (NCC), so the NCC will evaluate the damage and develop a recovery plan.

However, starting up a non-profit farm is very expensive. This damage will delay our ability to scale up our activities, generate revenue, and make it harder to cover our operating costs.

Youth Now Canada is a registered non-profit organization in Canada, but we do not have charitable status to offer tax receipts. However, donations and buying products from the Youth Now Farm means directly supporting a youth in need in our community and offering hands-on, tangible opportunities for skills training, social support, employment and entrepreneurship.
