Young boy injured by pig

My son Luke aged 9 was attacked by the mother sow when he tried to look at her piglets. She is normally very friendly and placid, we have had her since she was small and is now two years old and weighs 250kg. She is normally stroked and treated like a pet. She recently had babies and she didn't mind it previously when we went in to video them. Two days later when we visited her again, it happened so very quickly and although I was right there, she got hold of his arm and shook him like a rag doll before I could do anything. All I could do was grab her by the tail and hold her back as she lunged towards him again. I could not let go to help him and screamed for help, fortunately my helper was close by and could lift Luke out.

It was a terrifying and traumatic experience for both of us I thought I was going to see my son killed before my eyes.

His left arm is badly crushed and broken and has had to be wired and plated together. His right hand was gashed and fingers broken. He has endured two surgeries so far and due to infection concerns they have not been able to close the wound. He has to go back into surgery in a few days to try again He will be in hospital for at least another two weeks and may need a skin graft. Like so many, we have been struggling to make ends meet during these days of lockdown and do not have medical aid. This is a crippling blow for us. The costs have very quickly escalated beyond our means and any help would be greatly appreciated.
