Workshops & Safe spaces for Black children

During our Artists in Isolation project the global Black Lives Matter movement came back into focus - in the media - in response to the murder of George Floyd. The news and social media has at times been overwhelming and we took some time to speak to some of the young people we have been working with to see how they have felt.

In response to our conversations we have collaborated with two other Youth workers close to the children to deliver workshops and create a safe space for young Black children to discuss, respond and learn from themselves and their peers.

We held our first session yesterday with 7 young children , the session was successful and feedback from the young people and parents was brilliant.

We were funded (ie.staff were paid) by Love To Learn to run two of these workshops , we are meeting with them to discuss further funding.

We have started this fundraiser in the aim of this being a more long term project with paid youth workers facilitating the sessions.

At the moment funds raised will go towards:

- Buy books and resources for each child.

- Additional art workshop for the group.

- Snacks for children.

- Day trip / Fun times (A picnic/bike ride).
