Women of Wales Collective

Women of Wales aims to represent and celebrate a diverse selection of women from all across the country. From Cardiff Bay to Llandudno, to the miner’s terraces of Treorchy; we want to expose the Welsh matriarchy in all its forms. Every now and then, we will tour our WOW armchair across Wales to share

the stories of women who motivate, contribute and stimulate the development of this country to show that even in trying times, women not only survive but thrive. We also aim to educate and inspire the next generation, ensuring vital lessons aren't lost.

So many documents of the past tells us that women spent their time in kitchens and on front porches with a bucket and brush, providing love and sustenance for their husbands, children and communities, but seldom being held up as the pillars of community they’ve always been. And while we revel in celebrating the women from our past that brought us Bara Brith, hand stitched patchwork quilts and aspic jellies; we understand the vital importance of embracing the future. Today, Wales is home to women engineers, bus drivers, west end stars and Grammy award

winning artists. Wales also raises strong and courageous women who survive economic poverty and social isolation... and we want to share their stories.

Our blogs aim to capture the essence of Welsh womanhood; examining the perimeters of the human condition. We're interested to find out how single mothers from deprived communities have survived benefit reform and service cuts in recent years, or how it felt to be a female author in the 40's. We want to scour the Welsh Art scene and bring you the latest words from the minds of award winning writers.

Our overarching aim is to not only represent the unrepresented, but to search for the lesser-known stories of those we all know and love. People’s lives are always much more interesting than they seem at first, and sometimes it only takes a cup of tea on a rainy Welsh August day to get the conversation going.

So from artists, football coaches and politicians, to stay at home mums, surgeons & celebrities; we’d like to explore Wales from the female perspective. So why not take the journey with us, and find out what she's up to.

We would be very greatful for any donations to get this organisation off the ground. In the beginning, funds from donations will be used to pay for volunteer costs, transport and admin costs and to support the process of documentation using film, video and the Internet.
