The Window of Opportunity Program
The Window of Opportunity project was introduced after the realisation of high rates of maternal mortality and infant mortality rates in Sedibeng. The WinOp focuses on the first thousand days of life where these unnecessary deaths can be avoided. The first thousand days of life start from conception up to when the child is two years old. In these thousand days a child future can be improved by increasing positive behaviours such as attending Ante natal Care for pregnant women.
The WinOp has four objectives that are within the Maternal Child Health and Nutrition namely Antenal Care, Post Natal Care, Infant feeding Practices and Early Childhood Development. We strengthen these objectives conducting activities such as House Hold Visits, Facilitating Health Facility Learning and Educational Groups, Facilitating Community based Learning Groups and Promoting Information Education and Communication on MCHN issues through Social Mobilisation.
The project is implemented in Bophelong and its 18 extensions where the vast majority are surviving below the poverty datum line.
