Campaign Story
FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation center is one of the largest non-profit wildlife rehabilitation centers in Johannesburg South Africa. Freeme was set up to address the issue of insufficient organized care for urban wildlife such as mammals, birds and reptiles that have been displaced by human actions and natural incidents. These animals are continually exposed to urban problems and not living in their natural environments, thereby becoming threatened, orphaned, sick, suffering injuries and even dying inhumanely.
FreeMe has filled this gap at an ever increasing rate and the number of cases admitted has grown exponentially. From a small back garden rehab center, run on a shoestring budget, FreeMe has grown into an organization that has treated up to 13 000 cases per year.
FreeMe is at a cross-road as it has previously relied solely on public donations. In today's difficult fiscal times, donations have been diminishing. In addition wildlife is more at risk now than ever their existence is increasingly being threatened. Furthermore, the increase in wildlife cases being admitted daily calls for a better equipped rehabilitation Clinic and high levels of professionalism, compliance, resources and organisation e.g. strong rehabilitation protocols, best practices, community and professional education programmes, research and partnerships, to name a few, to which the organisation cannot fund on its own. These are therefore threatening the existence of this rehabilitation center and therefore affecting its ability, willingness and passion to render the best of quality care to these animals.
We are seeking various kinds of assistance during this transitional period which requires income to keep FreeMe and its clinic open to remain in business as we are currently struggling to meet these commitments, thereby compromising wildlife in our care and in the future.
