Every year, the Western Cape Schools Debating Board (WCSDB) sends a squad of approximately 60 learners and coaches to attend the South African National Debating Championship (SANSDC). Historically, as a province, we have performed exceptionally well, through the tireless efforts of our coaches and speakers. The WCSDB is required to raise approximately R200 000 every year to pay for registration fees, transport as well as weekly training costs (lunches and transport money for speakers).
Whilst SANSDC has been moved online this year for health and safety reasons, we are still in dire need of funding to register our speakers for the tournament, but also to ensure they have access to training! Accessibility to debating is one of the primary focus areas of the WCSDB in order to form a squad which is truly representative of the Western Cape.
The aim of this campaign is to assist us in raising money for registration, data for speakers who cannot attend training in person and do not have Wi-Fi at home, as well as weekly running costs for speakers who attend in-person training (transport money as well as lunches). The WCSDB provides transport money and lunches to our speakers who come from low-fee/no-fee schools across the Western Cape from areas such as Langa, Khayelitsha, Philippi, Blue Downs and Mfuleni. Access to debating is particularly important to these learners as it increases their academic performance and we’ve seen many of our speakers receive either full or partial scholarships from notable organisations for their tertiary education
Please support this incredibly worthy cause - the young people we work with have the potential to truly change our country. Be part of their journey and make their dreams a reality.
