We are just a group of Zimbabweans who care about our pensioners.
Many of Zimbabwe’s elderly are in a dire situation, through no fault of their own. These are people who have worked hard their whole lives, paid towards their pension funds - and wished to live out their golden years with grandbabies on their laps.
They have survived the turmoil called Zimbabwe, only to have their pensions stolen from them.
Their children (in many cases) have left Zimbabwe for greener pastures, so these dear people are literally prisoners now, living in old age homes that they can’t afford. Some of their families never phone them, or send them a food parcel, or pay their board in the homes.
Those who cannot afford their board are subsidized by the institutions they call home. These are people who once owned their own homes, paid their taxes, and worked hard to be decent citizens.
They are embarrassed that they have been forced to live off charity. Some who have become so confused by the ever changing money situation in Zimbabwe believe they are paying their way.
I always recall one dear lady who got dressed up every month and took herself off to the bank to do a transfer for her board. She would pay her $ZW800 religiously and ask for a receipt, which she carefully filed away. At that time $ZW800 was completely worthless. In 2020 it’s pretty worthless again (US$8)
We all played along, and one day she said to me “I pay good money, you know, to stay here. I am appalled that I don’t even get a little biscuit with my tea these days”
Of course we arranged for biscuits to be dropped off at the home every month. But that story may help you to understand that Zimbabwe’s elderly are abandoned, forgotten, and poor. Even if their bank statement shows impressive looking numbers.
We have made this Christmas video for our precious “Old Fogies” and have concentrated on 3 of the old age homes we feel need us the most.
We ask you to please help us to help them. Not only at Christmas but all year long.
After all, we all deserve a biscuit with our tea.
Thank you

update, 07/12/2020:
We are also very aware of an extremely vulnerable home in Harare. We are actively seeking funding to provide 24 hour security for the residents. We are extremely grateful to a renowned Zimbabwean Security Company for agreeing to provide 24 hour security guards at half price. We would desperately like to raise enough funds to pay for a years security up front to ensure we are not scrabbling monthly for funds. The total cost for the year is around £4500.00. If you would like to donate to this specific cause please ensure this is noted on your donation or contact one of the organisers directly for further information.
