I am a composer, writer, musician, and music publisher. At the beginning of 2019 I lost my biggest client due to lack of funding on their side. My dad has skin cancer with tumours popping up everywhere on his body and my mom suffers from heart failure and practically need 24/7 care. Hospice has been an amazing support for us as a family but they do not offer 24/7 care. As you could imagine, losing my most lucrative client resulted in major financial cuts backs, and soon I had to dip into my savings to pay for daily living and medical costs. I lecture part time at a local tertiary institution so I do have some income when there are lectures scheduled however soon the universities will be closing for Christmas holidays which means I will not have an income until February 2020. The odd isolated projects I do get are not a steady income, so we basically rely on mom and dads state pension to cover basic living costs but is not nearly enough to pay the rent and other necessities.
To hire someone to look after my parents day and night is not an option, because they do not have a medical aid and obviously due to my financial situation I cannot afford such a luxury. Even though I work from home when I'm not lecturing like I said earlier, the isolated projects from clients does not bring in a steady enough income. However because I work from home I can care for my parents, which I don't mind doing, but in order to keep a roof over our heads I need financial support to continue to do what I am doing.
The main photograph was taken a while back in case you are wondering - I could upload a recent photograph but seriously feel that protecting my parents dignity is more important than trying to prove the authenticity of their present circumstances. Cancer is an awful disease especially when it is visible above the skin and I would hate for anyone to remember my dad in that way.
I appeal to all who have known and loved Joe and Meisie to please make a small donation to this fundraiser. All the funds will be going to help me to continue to look after them during this difficult period of their lives. I appreciate your contribution whatever it may be!
