W.H.E.&.T or We're here to educate & train, is an initiative to assist those in the rural parts of Southern Africa to understand the dangers of fire and educate them in fire prevention and fire safety.
Fire is a serious hazard in shack settlements in South Africa. It has been argued that "On average in South Africa over the last five years there are ten shack fires a day with someone dying in a shack fire every other day." In 2011, 151 were reported to have been killed in shack fires in Cape Town alone.
The initiative included modules on additional skills such as basic first aid or life skills, hygiene and HIV Aids awareness.
Our Firefighting course - "B.U.R.N" Bring us relief now project is designed to educate and train residents to prevent fires before they claim more lives.
