Time to give back…
For those of you who may not know me I am not fresh out of school on a gap year before I head off to uni. I finished uni almost 10 years ago! But the charity Plan My Gap Year does provide the most exciting opportunity to volunteer in 10 different countries in their ‘Round the World Encounter’. This is going to be my adventure beginning in the New Year!
I am a qualified primary school teacher and seven years ago changed my career from working in schools to working for affluent families as a governess. But after many years of working with privileged children I feel a deep desire to help children from underprivileged backgrounds. On my trip I will be mostly utilising my invaluable skills and experience as a teacher in schools and other childcare settings, but I will also be working on a few other projects helping animal welfare and the environment.
Please support me in my efforts in giving back to those who need it most across the world by helping to fund my trip. I am paying for my own flights, so the money raised will help cover the cost of my accommodation out there (sometimes provided by local citizens in the nearby area who have been kind enough to offer a spare room and a seat at their kitchen table to the volunteers who come to support their community) and of course go to the many organisations I will be volunteering at. If we manage to surpass the target for raising money, I will be able to go out to local shops to buy extra resources for the schools helping the local economy also. Every donation will help – no matter how small it will be much appreciated!
I promise to post as much as I can on social media about my experience and explain where the money goes, how it helps support the organisations and what I get up to out there. Please follow my journey!
For those interested in knowing more please check out the Plan My Gap Year website. I will be visiting the following countries:
