Hi everybody! As you may be aware in January next year I will be travelling to South Africa with Plan My Gap Year, where I will be volunteering on the Kariega Game Reserve for 4 weeks. I will be taking part in their 'Big 5 Wildlife Experience' Programme and would love love if you could support me in helping these animals!
South Africa's Big 5 includes the African Lion, African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, African Leopard and White/Black rhinoceros. Sadly, the name 'Big 5' was given to them by hunters, as these animals are the most difficult to hunt. Because of these hunters the lion, elephant and cheetah conservation status' are all vulnerable, while the rhino, which has no natural predator other than humans, is critically endangered. This is something that must change.
There are many reasons why I have chosen this programme, not just because of my love for lions! I want to do something new and exciting before going to university, and can’t imagine anything better than helping to keep some of nature’s most majestic animals from going extinct. In order to embark on this once in a lifetime opportunity I need to fundraise to cover all of the costs. The total cost of everything including flights, programme fee, insurance, etc. will be about £2000, so your help will be gratefully appreciated. I will also be doing fundraising events, so make sure to keep updated on social media J
