Campaign Story
Hello Everyone!
I have been accepted to the Volunteer Eco Students Abroad Program (VESA) and will be travelling to Africa in May 2014 to take part in an important, sustainable community development project. I am seeking sponsorship to participate in the program and complete essential volunteer work in an African village.
VESA and myself will work in conjunction with the villagers and the village chief in addressing the major issues faced by the village and the local schools such as a lack of fresh running water, dilapidated schools and generally poor infrastructure. Your donation will help to facilitate the means for implementing a major community development project which will encompass construction in addition to educating the community on matters of conservation, sustainability, health/hygiene and English proficiency.
This past April, a classmate and I travelled to Arequipa, Peru on a ‘medical mission’. We travelled with a cardiac surgeon from Southlake Regional Health Centre to learn and help care for patients after surgery. We also volunteered at a local orphanage while there. I have an enormous drive to help people in need which explains why I am becoming a nurse!
I paid my way to Peru and 3rd year nursing at York has become more expensive. So this time, I'm asking for your help if you can! :)
By sponsoring me, you will be directly assisting with the costs involved in participating in the program. These costs are significant and include hiring local skilled trades people to supervise and assist in the building projects, building materials and donations to local organizations. Every volunteer will complete a minimum of 40 hours of hands-on community-based volunteer work.
Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated! Your donations will enable me to participate in this vital community development program. Any additional donations will be brought with me and directly donated to the program. While VESA is a volunteer organization, it is not a registered charity so unfortunately donations will not be tax deductible.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to make a difference offering my time and energy to volunteer overseas this summer. If you are able to help, even in the smallest way, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me directly on Facebook or call/text me at 289-926-6165 if you have any questions.
