Campaign Story
Hello,
My name is Emily, I am a 19 year old student at the University of Bordeaux studying Sociology. I am passionate about current social issues and would love to be able to make a positive impact on people's lives. This is why, in August, I will be traveling to Lisbon, Portugal, to volunteer for a homeless support project. This programme will allow me to have first-hand experience supporting people in need, that are victims of social inequalities. The program contributes to the UN's sustainable development goal of no poverty by providing better access to primary needs.
"International Volunteer HQ's Homeless Support project empowers volunteers to help people at a homeless center in Lisbon that aims to minimize social and individual risks caused by addiction. Volunteers gain exoerience working with people with addictions an help provide them with food, accomodation, basic medical care, support and other necessities" -IVHQ.
Through this programme I can gain valuable and transferable skills whilst exploring a new culture and helping people. Doing this is also a chance for personal development.
I will be volunteering through "Volunteering International". With this organisation I will be able to obtain a certificate in International volunteering from the Global Travel Academy that will be invaluable towards future studies.

I need your help to make it all happen. I have been working and saving but as you can imagine, flights to portugal in high season are not cheap. By donating to my project you will also be helping to fight against poverty and making a difference in the lives of the people I meet whilst in Lisbon.
Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help me on my journey.

Below is a breakdown of my trip expenses and I would like to say thank you in advance for any help you can offer me in reaching my target.
- Return flight to Portugal : 284 €
- Volunteer insurances : 62€
- Registration fee : 282€ (Pre-departure support, preparation tools and training)
- Program fee : 500€ (covers accomodation, meals, in country support, airport pick-up and a certificate).

Carbon footprints..

Unfortunately, the flights I have to take to get to the project have the potentiel to to generate a bigger carbon footprints than I would produce in a whole year, if I stayed at home. I don't. . . . .
