Volunteer in South Africa

HELLO

On the 3rd August 2013 I am going to South Africa for 3 and a half weeks ( thats all the holidays us poor student mental nurses get). I will be going to an area called St Lucia. The St Lucia area is a world heritage wetland region with large local communities surrounding this area. Whilst I am working part time along with my studying, I do need some help in terms of funding, which is why I am launching this got get funding, and really appreciate everyone's contributions.

ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA

Swaziland is the smallest country in the southern hemisphere, but it has a big heart despite its depressed economy. The capital, Mbabane, lies at the northern end of the lush Ezulwini Valley: a small, unpretentious town that caters well for tourists. Among the country's main attractions are Mlilwane, a well-established game sanctuary; the magnificent Mantenga Falls; and the annual ceremony of the reed dances at the Royal Kraal in Lebombo on the country's eastern border.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING WHILST OUT THERE?

I will be involved with working with children in a local orphange teaching English and basic sanitation, hygiene and nutrition. I will also along with other volunteers help renovate and build run down facilities in the village, but also develop substainable farming units that the whole village can benefit from.

VESA aims to help families find some source of employment, but also keep them in the community. It also aims to help needy families but providing them with housing, as many are not fortunate to have this.

Along with this I will be working alongside national park authorities in areas of conservation in the observation, capture and rerelease of crocodiles. It will also involve creating and cleaning enclosures for animals such as cheetahs and leopards.
