Joseph Scialampo is 1 out of 10 Boys in his age group that has been selected to Represent the USA in the2020 United World Games in Germany, Italy & Austria. Student-athletes are selected from a National pool based on athletics, leadership ability, and character. Each student chosen goes through months of evaluation before they are even notified of the possibility to be selected. Joseph Scialampo is a local basketball student-athlete and sophomore from Ashley Ridge High School in Summerville SC. Joseph has been playing basketball since he was 4 years old. His love for the game has gotten him where he is today. Here is a little bit from Joseph and what he has to say about the game, representing the USA and his future.
"I have been playing sports in general since I was about four years old. I decided a few years ago to stop playing football and focus primarily on my first love basketball. I can't put into words the feeling I get when I hold that ball in my hand. When that buzzer rings and it's game time I can feel everything else around me fade and I go into full commitment mode. Being fully committed isn't always easy, especially when it seems like every shot you take is off or your team is losing by twenty to a team you know you should be beating by twenty. I've learned that my physical conditioning and mental toughness are being tested every time I step on that court. So, I strive to channel my anger, frustration or sorrow that can come and go throughout a game into positive competitive focus. It is important for me to be a good teammate. I have developed relationships with teammates both on and off the court, I try and lead by example and play selflessly but most of all I am dedicated to doing whatever it takes for the greater good of my team.
When I look into the future, there are so many things I am unsure about. I know no matter where I go to college or what I study along the way basketball will be in my life. It is all I want to do. I want to learn everything I can about the game and about my abilities to reach my peak performance. I ultimately would love to play in the NBA, but let's be realistic and take things one step at a time. I know one thing for sure, whoever I get to play for in college will have a dedicated, focused, hard working player that will never give up."
The opportunity to play for the USA Basketball team in the 2020 World Games and represent my country is beyond words. I am honored and humbled and I PROMISE to represent our GREAT country well!!
The United World Games is to be held in Germany, Italy & Austria in June/July of 2020. My trip includes not only the international sport competition but an opportunity to interact with athletes and cultures from all around the world. This trip will take me on a journey of personal growth and leadership development through international travel and athletics. I will be joining the United World Games, the largest youth sports tournament in Europe (10,000 Athletes, 40 Countries, 5 Continents, 800 teams, 15 Sports). This is by far the biggest thing to ever happen to me in my life and I am ready for the opportunity!!
In order to go on this Journey we are required to raise the money we need in order to participate.
Please help ME to follow my dreams and be able to represent our country this summer. Any donation no matter how big or small is a step closer to helping me get there. I have to have payment in by February 1st so that is why I have a deadline on donations. All your donations will go towards funding for my trip which includes the following but not limited to: Airfare, taxes and service fees for flying overseas. All airport transfers and transportation to scheduled activities. SaWUSA Uniforms & Equipment. Entry fees for Tournaments and USA sport sanctioning and approvals and much much more.
