Urgent Food During COVID-19 – Modelo Neighbourhood San Salvador

There are 35 families with children between the ages of 0 and 12 years old from the "Modelo" neighborhood that are in desperate need of food during this pandemic. This is a very poor neighborhood with one of the highest rates of violence in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Some background information:

"Descalzos" was born in February 2019 with the aim of loving and protecting children. It consists of assisting children in one of the very poor neighbourhoods with the highest rates of violence in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Before COVID-19, children between the ages of 0 and 12 years old from the "Modelo" neighbourhood were being served. Three projects had been implemented:

1. The first Monday and Wednesday, where the children were receiving in-house help within the community, helping them with their school subjects through reading, understanding and encouraging them to be good students.

2. The second project was on Thursdays, where the children are taught English in a basic way so that they have a base and an interest in this language.

3. The last and most important project was on Saturdays, where they were given psycho-spiritual attention in which they are encouraged and challenged to be children who trust in their potential, even if they have no resources and everything is against them.

These 4 days they are attended from 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Additionally, refreshments were being provided at each meeting, as well as educational materials and toys. With the help of volunteers and good-hearted people, they were working with these children, but the needs continue.

Due to the current pandemic, these projects have had to be put on hold to focus on helping with the most urgent need which is food. Will you join us?
