Over the past few weeks since the devastating outbreak of a pandemic in our country, we have heard, learned and experienced significant disruptions relating to artists’ living arrangements and livelihoods, impacted by the global spread of the Coronavirus. This situation, unfortunately, subjects a number of artists to sad, desperate vulnerabilities and situations.
In partnership with a community of artists, we are embarking on a supportive structure and initiative called ‘U SHIELD THE ARTIST CAMPAIGN’. The aim of this campaign is to assist artists in need to pay rent and remain in a safe space. This is as a response to the fact that many South African based artists are mainly out of their hometowns and rely on the money they raise through their art to lease
In support by artists such as Mamela Nyamza, Kemang wa Lehulere, Stacy Hardy, Koleka Putuma, Chuma Sopotela, Calvin Ratladi, Awethu Hleli, Mike van Graan, Mandla Mlangeni ,Sonwabo Valashiya and Jefferson Tshabalala.
