Campaign Story
My friend and I are going to travel to Sri Lanka for 3 weeks in June/July to undertake volunteer work. We will be volunteering in a turtle conservation programme and also in the orphanage every weekday. Turtles are under threat in Sri Lanka and volunteers are really needed to help out with conservation efforts. Sea turtles are often found in fishing nets and many have lost limbs becoming disabled and are no longer able to survive in the wild. Many of these disabled turtles are found by local Sri Lankans who bring them to the project site for rehabilitation and care. The programme aims to rehabilitate disabled turtles and protect baby turtle eggs that have been stolen by local poachers. In the afternoon we will volunteer in the orphanage. Our role at the orphanages is largely centred on teaching English, however there is always time to organise games and activities for the children. We can also help the children keep their rooms tidy, teach them about personal hygiene, help prepare and serve meals, and assist with the day to day needs of the orphanages. We would be very grateful for any support you could give us in funding this once in a lifetime trip. Every donation, no matter how small, would be much appreciated. Kind regards.
