Hello and thank you for visiting this fundraising website. This “turning the page” fundraiser is an exciting way you can help our global community, and directly impact hundreds of primary school kids. Firstly let me give you a little background. My name is Melinda and I recently took a gap semester in south East Asia. During this semester I had the opportunity to travel to Cambodia and volunteer. The service project that made the most impact on me was rebuilding the primary school. It was a floating village where the school was literally sinking due to a recent storm with both floor and roof damage. While we were there, we repaired the damage as well as fixed up the desks and seats. We also got to play with and teach the kids. I have never seen a group of kids so excited to learn in my life. Talk about bilingual. I feel so blessed that I was able to meet these amazing kids and l learned just how lucky I am to have had the educational experience I did. Books are important for many reasons, besides just improving literary skills; they also can take you on a great adventure, or teach you about an important person or historic event. The goal of this fundraiser is to be able to purchase books for primary school age kids in both English and Khmer; their native language. The school is in a small community in a poor rural area. The whole school is one building with one bathroom and currently has 184 students. Supporting education especially in a school that wouldn’t otherwise have access luxuries such as books, helps solidify these young people’s future; Instead of selling bracelets on the street they have the opportunity to become a teacher, doctor or anything they decide. If you value education, if you value people from all countries, cultures and backgrounds working together, then this is the perfect cause for your support. Thank you for your time and consideration.
