I am devastated by the news that my furry friend, Tuckerman, was recently diagnosed with rapidly progressing cataracts. Tuckerman is a 1 ½ year old husky who belongs to my sister, Katie Mawer, and her fiancé, Nick Archer. I've known Tuckerman since he was adopted at 8 weeks old and have watched him grow into a gentle, kind, and fun-loving companion. Tuckerman loves EVERYONE! He is always eager to greet new people and views every dog he meets as a potential playmate. We are constantly laughing at his silly antics and goofy personality. Tuckerman lives life to the fullest, whether he is hiking in the Green Mountains, running through wooded trails, or playing at the local dog park. Tuckerman has become a beloved member of our family who is always there for every adventure.

Two months ago Tuckerman was diagnosed with inherited cataracts despite coming from a reputable breeder who had his parents' eyes tested prior to breeding. Just BAD LUCK. The veterinarian ophthalmologist had hoped the cataracts would be non-progressive, but unfortunately they are not. This week, she determined that Tuckerman has lost 75% vision in one eye, and the other eye is expected to deteriorate quickly. Cataract surgery is the only option to restore his vision, and it needs to be done within the next month before the damage becomes irreversible. Without surgery Tuckerman will go blind and he will have to have his eyes removed. Surgery Cost $4,000-$4,500.

It has been an extremely emotional and heartfelt time for Nick and Katie trying to make the right decision for Tuckerman. At only 1 ½ years old, he still has a long future ahead of him. Nick and Katie want to make every effort to ensure that Tuckerman can still live a long and happy life. The surgery has an 85-95% success rate and once the cataracts are removed, they cannot come back. It is a worthwhile investment, but the urgency and the timing of the situation have placed a heavy financial burden on Katie and Nick. In the short amount of time since receiving the diagnosis, they have been able to set aside a small amount of money, but they need your help! Any donation you can provide is greatly appreciated. I’m Dave Mawer, Katie’s brother, Tuckerman’s hiking partner, and weekend roommate. Tuckerman and I thank you for your consideration in helping us raise money for his surgery.
