As you maybe aware I have my long overdue sabbatical in a few short weeks. After running through a bucket list of options, I thought it would be a great idea to spend my summer helping kids from low income communities in the heights of the Andes in Peru - 51.6% of Peru's total population is defined as poor, including 19.2% that is extremely poor - the vast majority of that population are from the Andean communities.
For 3 weeks, I will be volunteering at one of The Global Volunteer Network's (GVN) local projects ('Maximo Nivel') in Cusco, 3500 metres up in the Andes Mountains - altitude sickness will certainly add to the challenge. My time will be spent working 5 days a week in schools, community centres, and orphanages. The people at these projects come from low income families and cannot afford to study English at a private institute.
The project focuses on teaching children of all ages who come to learn English, participate in games and cultural activities. Volunteers will not just teach English, but will provide general support for other activities at the site as well.
Your donation will help support the projects that I will be supporting from 30th June - 19th July and also help fund GVN's future programmes.
Thanks ever so much for you help for this really great charity.
