TOUR DE FORTY

Some may call this a midlife crisis, while others call this inspiring. The TOUR DE FORTY is our way to fulfill a dream of riding across the United States of America when we are 40 years old, and that happens to be this year, 2017.

Meet the riders, Johnny Lam and Sang Hyun de Krieger. Johnny has been traveling by bicycle since 2009 and have taken big trips, like riding across 9 countries in 2015, as well as leading bicycle tours with Adventure Cycling Association in his spare time. Sang Hyun reclaimed his love for riding bikes in 2011 and has travelled down the Pacific Coast. He also participates in local MeetUp rides around Southern California.

The route will follow the Southern Tier, which starts in San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida. We will be traverse across California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The trip will actually start from Chino Hills, California, where we reside and will take approximately two and a half months to complete the 3000+ mile journey.

The adventure is slated to begin on March 23, 2017 and we are looking for some help. We hope to to raise $10,000 or more, which will help cover living expenses, such as food, lodging and travel costs to get back home. More importantly, 50% of the donations will be given to the University of Texas John Ritter Research Program to help find a way to treat and identify acute aortic dissections before they occur. This disease claimed the lives of 2 actors, John Ritter and Alan Thicke, as well as Johnny’s father, Henry Lam, in 2012.

Our trip will be documented on Johnny’s blog, Milestone Rides. The plan is to have a weekly video highlighting each week’s events and tribulations during the trip. We will also be updating our progress on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Google+. Don’t forget to follow Milestone Rides to keep up with the trip and learn about bicycle touring.

We will also be transparent about the funds and keep you informed on what the money is used towards.
