The Voice of Edward

This holiday, Edward's place at dinner will be vacant.  I heard about Edward's horrible, needless death from his sister, Matha Coakley, the Attorney General of Massachusetts.  When Martha was running for Governor of Massachusetts, she always took time during her campaign speeches to talk about her brother Edward, who had committed suicide because he developed such severe depression that he lost the ability to recognice his own illness or to ask for help. Edward needed a voice to speak for him when he couldn't speak for himself.  

I am a physician. I've specialized in helping people like Edward who have chemical imbalances that interfere with their ability to communicate. But I can only help one person at a time.  When Martha Coakley stood up in a public debate and said that we need to do better at providing services for severely ill people who cannot advocate for themselves, I decided to gather other like minded people to start a nonprofit organization to be The Voice of Edward. With your help we will coordinate scientific research and practical solutions using social networking and building better medications to stop the delusions and cravings that prevent people from benefitting from therapy and self-help programs.

When you have a gathering this season, set an extra place for the Edwards who still suffer.  With the cost of one meal for each empty place, we can respond to Martha Coakley's call to action.  Be The Voice of Edward.
