10 Years ago my husband and I started a small business called Sterling Exotics. Our plans were to breed and raise quailty reptiles for responsible pet owners. But as we dove into our dream we realized that selling animals was just a small part of what our community thirsted for. We started volenteering with our local boys and girls clubs, boys and girlscout and area schools and teaching them about the environment and why we should not kill snakes or paint on box turtles, and discovered that we had potentially important educational venue for our communty. We want to build an indoor reptile zoo called The Onslow County Herpetocultural Center.
Jason and I served our country as Marines and now we want to serve our community in an educational aspect. Our town of Jacksonville, North Carolina is home of the Camp Lejeune one of the largest Marine Corp bases in the US and there is one very small out door zoo for our marines to enjoy with their families. The nearest venue is 45 minutes noth or south of us. We want to build a 10000sqft indoor reptile zoo for them to enjoy and learn and that would also benefit our towns tourist economy.
We have 350 reptiles, from huge anocondas to teeny geckos and a need to entertain but most of all educate. We have all of these animals strategically place throughout our house and offer free tours on Sundays and have been told this is a very needed addition to our community. Now we feel that we need to expand . We need to buy land and a have a bulding built.
Thank you for looking at our idea and hope you will feel the need to help us.
