For the past few years my spouse Robyn and I have researched the ins and outs of owning a business. We were suprised to see how many documents would have to be filled out (business identity, tax id number, permits, licenses and etc) just toget started. And then we knew we'd need other things as well... A post office box for mail, a studio that can be used 2-fold for selling (there are many of them here near us), business cards, a business phone line, website, paypal fees, taxes to consider, advertising, supplies (the ones we need once -say a jewelry drill, and those supplies that we will need to continue to replenish such as beads and other notions) and such. And, then don't forget to be in almost any festival we looked at to start with, the booths are upwards of 250+ for a 2 day span plus electric, a canopy, tables/ frames to display work. And, then the gas, insurance and things like food and hotel when we aren't at a local store! Everywhere we turn there is a cost to get us going in the right direction.
I just graduated this month, and have been working hours upon hours to make enough jewelry, prayer beads, wrapped bead necklaces, wrapped bead bookmarks for prayer books, and wrapped bead bracelets. I also have created a line of 9 pointed star greeting cards and 6x6 and 8x8 pen/ink and watercolor/acrylic images where each one is different from the other. I am also working on finding places to display and sell my work.
While Robyn has one year left before becoming certified as a chef, I want to be having art shows, sell my art, and network with other artists out there.
One of the biggest things every business has to focus on, besides the obvious- the customors, and putting out great product, but all to advertise. You won't know i'm here unless I have a way to contact you!
This money will go to cover the business expenses, supplies, documents, shipping, advertising and a studio place. No amount is too small to donate...
