The Holistic Education Group

The Holistic Education Group is an NPO that offers alternative education options for learners living in disadvantaged communities. We realized that a huge burden has been placed on teachers with overcrowded classrooms, piles of marking, departmental deadlines etc, which leaves teachers with very little time to focus on individual learners’ needs.

We view children as little human who have mental, emotional, spiritual and health issues on top of their educational demands. Our lives have become so fast paced that it leaves our youth whiplashed with no balance in their lives causing them to act out by using drugs, alcohol and sexual immorality. We offer learners :

* subject tutoring

* Computer Literacy

* Specialized study methods according to their unique intelligence

* Peer social groups

We have partnered with Octan Media to empower young ladies by creating a pageant “ Miss Octan media”. The purpose of this pageant is to promote social cohesion, academic excellence, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and self care in these young ladies, to help them secure a bright future. We visited12 schools, asked the schools to select two ladies who were going to workshop for 8 weeks before the pageant itself. They were asked to start social cohesion projects in their schools e peer counseling groups .

Due to Covid 19, we had to suspend our services to our learners and after hearing about the extension we are very concerned for our students. Are they coping mentally and emotionally? Are they in a safe environment, Do they have someone assisting them with school work? Will they fall too far behind to catch up? Are they technologically equipped to access all the information they need to keep up with school? Is there food at home?

We have tried to continue with our lessons via Watsapp but unfortunately most of our learners and our tutors do not have data or access to phones, laptops, computers or tablets. We were applying for funding but then Covid 19 hit and everything was put on hold, everything except our children who still need us. Our learners don’t only need these technologies now, but they will need them forever in this technological world.

We are asking for assistance from anyone, anywhere to please help us make a difference in young peoples lives, so we can afford them the opportunities so many other privileged children have. We also employ unemployed youth who are specialists in their fields for our program, we need to provide relief for our staff who have no other income. They too are crippled by the lockdown.

We have applied for relief funding but it is not guaranteed, our children need us as soon as humanly possible. Please help us support our learners holistically.
