The 5th Wall is not just about comics. It’s about breaking barriers. It’s about proving that a group of people, who bonded over their love of comics, can come together and create their own. Not only create their own comics, but also be able to integrate and compete with the major comic book companies. The 5th Wall is a chance to say that being a nerd and being the underestimated underdog does not mean you fail. It means that you don’t have to fit in to stand out. It means that when you have nothing else but your imagination and ambition, that is enough. The 5th Wall is a chance for us to show that when you work hard and believe in yourself, your dreams can become a reality.
Project 5th is a think tank working in conjunction with the 5th Wall Comics, dedicated to providing culturally diverse multimedia that spans every genre of entertainment. The Project’s objective is to create media via audio, film and visual art that challenge and eventually, through competition and innovation, produce change that renders the status quo irrelevant. What is the status quo you may ask? Well, In the comic book world the latest trend to encourage diversity is to recreate Caucasian male characters as minorities or females. However these reincarnations are little more than shells of the originals. Films have also portrayed skewed or typecast views of certain aspects of society with little relevance to the origins or realities of the stories they tell. At Project 5th, we plan to change that by applying a culture of diversity and costumer appreciation within all of our creations. Project 5th will do this by following 3 basic protocols.
1. Perform demographic studies to evaluate the demand for specific themes, cultural references etc.
2. Research cultural trends as well as tradition in order to accurately portray them.
3. Respond directly to fan feedback, which is the hallmark of the 5th Wall/Project 5th experience.
The current barrier we face while building our dream is lack of finances. It’s the only thing holding us back from sharing our talent, art, and stories with the world. With enough funding, those barriers could be broken down providing Project 5th/5th Wall with the ability to trademark logos, copyright our materials, and buy visual art equipment to better bring our creations to life. As a pledge of our appreciation, The 5th Wall will offer avenues in which to contact us. We love direct feedback whether its encouragement or criticism. At Project 5th, we believe that the 5th Wall is representative of the barrier between the fans and the creators. When a character speaks to the audience it is called breaking the 4th wall. The character faces the audience, and addresses the figurative invisible wall between him/herself and the viewers. We have deemed that when the creators speak directly to the fans about their work they’re breaking the 5th wall. Gone are the days of invisible hands providing entertainment with little to no avenues in which to give feedback. Because we are fans, we are a fan first company and will always be that way.
