Campaign Story
The KYEEDA School Redevelopment project has now been underway since February 2013 and land was secured in June 2014 by the KYEEDA Committee after seeking guidance from lawyers and the Land Council in Nairobi. A plot of land was purchased in Lucky Summer Estate, an area adjacent to Korogocho slum. Building of the school commenced shortly after the land acquisition and by February 2015 the first storey of the school was complete and classes commenced. A second storey has since been constructed to grow to a sustainable size and allow the school to comfortably accommodate around 300 children. In addition to this, we have recently donated a large amount of books and funds to paint and resource a library for the school.
The Teacher for Teacher Sponsorship Program arose out of a need to ensure quality teachers employment at KYEEDA Lucky Summer School in Nairobi, Kenya. We wanted to continue to support the school and continue to give children the best opportunities and education. The Teacher for Teacher Sponsorship Program commenced in June 2015 and with the support from our generous sponsors we supported three teachers with an annual salary equivalent to the average wage of a Kenyan teacher in a government primary school. The sponsorship has relieved the school of financial pressure and it has brought about change to the individual teachers lives, as well strengthening the entire school community. We now have five sponsored teachers. The school has recently hired a sixth teacher and there are two teaching assistants who need financial support. This fundraising campaign aims to support the new staff with salaries to sustain them for the next academic year.
