First of all, thank you so much for visiting us and our fundraising site!!!
As many of you know, Taya has gone through a rough time medically over the last few years. As a result of her journey, she is now unable to have her own biological children. It all started in December 2011 when, after much encouragement from Jackie Perron, she went to the doctor who found a cyst and tumour on her left ovary.
Round One with Cynthia (Corey's Name for the Tumor)
On January 20, 2012 she had her first surgery to remove the ovary with the cyst and tumour. They also found two other tumours, one on her cervix and one on her right ovary. On February 3, 2012 doctors went in again to remove the tumours that had been discovered during the first surgery and biopsy lymph nodes and omentum.
At that point the pathology report from the "scary" tumour had come in showing it had contained only minute amounts of cancer. Dr. Nelson, Taya's oncologist, believed there was nothing to worry about and that no chemo or other treatment would be required. YAY!
In May 2012, Taya ended up back in the hospital with an infection (unfortunely, while her mom and dad were on vacation in Panama, ekk!). Thankfully, this was fixed with rounds of antibiotics.
Round Two with Cynthia
The summer of 2013 Kyle and Taya started dating and everything was going beautifully. Then, late in 2013, the doctor sent Taya for new baselines so that if anything happened again they would have a good idea of the starting point. Well, they found another tumour on the other side this time... That tumour was removed, along with her second ovary on December 4, 2013. The pathology came back and revealed an inner cancerous part of the tumour. Thankfully, the cancer was contained deep within the tumour and the oncologist once again did not request chemo.
Moving Forward
This did leave Taya unable to have her own biological children. Taya and Kyle are not discouraged by this however, and are moving forward with their lives getting engaged in January 2014. They are very excited to move onto the next stage of life by adopting!! The plan is to adopt a child-in-need from a foreign country and also from Canada. Both processes are very expensive. We've set our minds and our budget to start saving for this expense and dream.
We invite you to be part of this journey by contributing to our dreams of expanding our family. Anything and everything helps! We would also love for you to follow us on our journey and follow our blog at http://mybeautifullyuniquefamily.blogspot.ca/
We are so excited to share in this amazing adventure with all of our friends and family.
We love you all!!
Taya and Kyle
