Join me in supporting my wonderful friend, Maheen, with urgent medical and living expenses as she resumes cancer treatment.

Maheen was diagnosed with Stage 3B cancer on September 19, 2022. For the past year, she has endured an absolutely relentless treatment plan, including chemotherapy, radiation, two surgeries, and immunotherapy. I've been truly shocked to see the reality of our "universal" healthcare system. Cancer patients have so many out-of-pocket expenses for medications, supportive treatments (massage, dietician, naturopath, physio), and living expenses (while unable to work).

Maheen recently received very difficult, unexpected news that the cancer has spread. She started chemotherapy for the second time this Monday September 18th.

I've joined in the efforts to raise $35,000 for existing medical debts, immediate medical expenses, and ongoing living expenses. Nobody -- nobody -- should have to rely on crowdsourcing for healthcare, but here we are. I hope you'll join us and donate.

How to Help:

1) Donate to our GoGetFunding campaign. Any donations made to this page count towards our final goal of $35,000. Every bit counts and is deeply appreciated.

2) In Toronto? Buy a ticket to our fundraiser on Tuesday October 3 at Rooms Coffee, 915 Dupont. Doors at 7pm.

Wait, listen.
Don't scroll past this part.
CANCER FUNDRAISERS CAN BE SUPER FUN.
The vibe: live music, cocktails, silent auction, poetry readings by Maheen herself, tarot readings by Kat, enthusiasm by me (due to lack of other skills). Tickets on sale now: supportmaheen.com/events

About Maheen

Maheen and I met in grad school ~8 years ago. I know her as a fiesty, heartfelt, determined, creative, funny, and brilliant person. She is a clinical social worker who specializes in refugee mental health and has worked in conflict zones and refugee camps abroad, as well as with refugees and asylum seekers in Toronto. She's a writer, a poet, an incredibly talented chef, and a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Maheen shows up for people and loves big. I've learned so much from her and our friendship, and she truly lives out "community" in her daily life.

Please join me in supporting her through this campaign, to bring ease to her heart and life as she goes through the next phase of treatment.

With gratitude and some "classic Maheen" fiesty determination,

Mira and the Care Constellation
