Campaign Story
“This is the third generation of urban and rural girls in the Women’s Leadership and Training Programme who are finding ways to rise above gender barriers and poverty. In the rural areas, a lack of potable water continues to be an obstacle for girls to succeed in their studies as they spend many hours every week carrying water on their heads, as traditionally expected of them, for their families and schools. Besides influencing their brothers to break out of culturally-assigned gender roles, share household chores and become gatherers of water, WLTP girls are also involved in Climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, and are becoming budding conservationists.“
