JOURNAL OF PHILOSOPHY OF EMOTION

Our Mission: The Journal of Philosophy of Emotion (JPE) aims to be an internationally recognized, open access, philosophy journal specializing in the publication of high-quality, peer-reviewed papers that address philosophical interests on the topic of emotion, broadly construed (e.g., including affect). Each issue of the JPE will aim at featuring a collection of articles that covers a variety of concerns, or concentrates on a particular theme, from a wide range of philosophical or interdisciplinary perspectives, including metaphysics, philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of language, ethics, feminist philosophy, non-Western philosophy, experimental philosophy, moral psychology, psychology, sociology, anthropology, and linguistics. The JPE holds that philosophers of emotion can learn from experts in other areas and disciplines, and vice versa. It seeks to encourage an open exchange of ideas, and will not promote any specific ideology, school, tradition, or methodology. After an initial vetting process, all manuscripts will be reviewed by members of a diverse, international editorial advisory board, constituted by experts in a variety of disciplines and areas of philosophy, and is associated with the Society for Philosophy of Emotion (SPE).

Core Values: Collegiality/Community, Honesty, Integrity, the Principle of Charity, Rigorous Scholarship, Clarity of Content

Review Process: In order to fulfill its mission, the JPE is also pilot testing a fully transparent, cooperative, open review (FTCOR) process. For more information about our open review process please see the information posted under Open Review (FTCOR).

Publication Information: After the publication of its inaugural issue the JPE will publish issues on an ongoing basis, at the end of every month, as articles are accepted. Furthermore, as an open access journal, the JPE does not have any subscription income. Therefore, following the lead of innovative journal publications like the Philosopher’s Imprint (PI), the JPE charges authors a nominal fee of $20.00 to offset its operating and publishing costs. A complete breakdown of the JPE’s Annual Budget has been made available for public review, and a yearly spending report will be provided at the end of every fiscal year.

Copyright Information: The JPE will be a fully online, open access journal, that will publish articles under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivative License, in which authors will retain the copyright to their work and manage their own permissions for other uses.

Business License: The JPE has filed for a non-profit corporation business license in the state of Nevada.

Funding: The JPE is seeking or will be seeking funding through an American Philosophical Association Small Grant (max. $5K), and other academic institutional sponsorships or grants. Currently, however, we hope to be able to cover our Projected Annual Budget through your generous support, especially in order to provide some of our editorial assistants (who are graduate students) with a stipend for their service. Please note that any funds generated through your generous gift will be used to first pay for any publication and operating costs before providing our editorial assistants with a stipend, and the JPE will maintain transparency in all its spending by providing a yearly report at the end of every year of publication. If you would like to help the JPE meet its budgetary needs by making a monetary gift, you can do so through the link provided.

Thank you, and we appreciate your support!

Sincerely,

Cecilea Mun
